As part of the Expo School Programme, the team of participating schools and their students worked with 3D printing engineers and digital animators to bring to life 298 incredible innovations that celebrates youngsters and the ideas they have created.
The Expo School Programme chose 298 projects to be presented at Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion during the six months of the exhibition, where 395 private schools and 167 public schools submitted over 6000 applications for participation from all across the state. This was done as part of the Expo 2020 initiative Young Innovators, a programme for schools inviting students from across the UAE to tap into their circles of empathy and unleash their creativity by developing an innovation that would make the world a brighter place. The journey began with a simple sketch on a napkin, and ended with 298 fantastic innovations. The innovation themes are divided into four categories – The Planet, Smart Health, Future Mobility, and Work and Play.
Some of the world’s greatest ideas are said to have started as a humble napkin sketch, turning into something magnificent. The programme aims at developing critical thinking and problem solving skills, teamwork and collaboration skills, and practice of peer-to-peer review and constructive feedback on projects.
The Expo 2020 Young Innovators exhibition is located on the ground floor of Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion, designed by UK-based Grimshaw Architects, and is open for the duration of the event, which runs from October 1, 2021 – March 31, 2022. Visitors to the Expo 2020 also have a chance to be part of the exhibition when they visit the Pavilion. They can draw their own ideas on napkins, which can then be scanned and displayed on a screen in the gallery, which is open from 10am to 10pm.
