MV Logos Hope, the biggest ocean-going book fair, has docked at Egypt’s busy Port Said seaport on 4th January, 2023. This is the vessel’s second visit to Egypt in more than 12 years. After sailing from Beirut, Lebanon, it will stay in Egypt for 20 days before resuming its voyage to the port of Aqaba in Jordan.
Owned by Mosbach-based German charity Gute Bücher für Alle (Good Books for All) which operates floating bookshops, MV Logos Hope is labeled as the largest floating library in the world containing more than 50,000 titles, a virtual treasure trove for bibliophiles. Besides the library, there’s also a theatre, international café, and dining room on board. Built in 1973, the 132-meter long GBA ship has an international crew and staff of more than 400 volunteers from 60 nationalities on board. More than 350 passengers on board disembarked to make tourist visits to Cairo.
With special preparations made for the cultural event by the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), the visit highlights the economic zone’s ability to accommodate all types of cruise ships, making Egyptian ports more attractive for docking. The ship’s floating exhibition is described as a major cultural event, drawing thousands of daily visitors.
With a nominal fee, visitors can board the ship and join the activities. Children below 13 years and those who are differently abled can enter for free.
MV Logos Hope has visited over 480 ports in more than 150 countries, welcoming over 49 million visitors since 1970, “sharing knowledge, and providing help and hope” in every port it visits.
