GPO Produces Materials for Presidential Inauguration

The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) collaborated with the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) to produce high-quality printed materials for the 60th Presidential Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump. Over the past year, GPO’s skilled teams designed, produced, and procured a variety of materials to support this historic event. GPO’s involvement in Presidential Inaugurations dates back to at least 1913, reflecting over a century of tradition and expertise.

Using advanced secure design and printing technologies, GPO produced more than 220,000 color-coded tickets and over 17,000 secure access credentials for the inauguration.

“GPO is proud to serve the American people by saving taxpayer dollars and creating jobs through its partnerships with the private sector printing industry,” said GPO Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern. “Our print procurement program ensures that Federal agency customers receive timely, high-quality service while maximizing cost-effectiveness for taxpayers.”

Studies conducted by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and the Joint Committee on Printing have consistently shown that Federal agencies achieve significant cost savings by utilizing GPO’s print procurement services instead of managing printing in-house. These partnerships also ensure that government publications are accessible to the public through GPO’s Federal Depository Library and Publications and Information Sales programs.

“The production of these materials reflects a year-long effort by GPO’s procurement, printing, secure credential, and design teams,” said Director Halpern. “These items will serve as lasting keepsakes of President Trump’s inauguration for many attendees. I commend our talented team members for their hard work and thank the JCCIC for entrusting GPO with this responsibility once again.”

GPO’s role in securing America’s most important documents extends beyond inaugural materials. For example, GPO produces U.S. passports for the Department of State and border crossing cards for the Department of Homeland Security. Supporting the President’s inauguration by producing secure documents is another example of GPO’s commitment to serving as a trusted provider of secure credentials for the Federal Government.

As the Federal Government’s official resource for publishing and distributing trusted information, GPO plays a vital role in delivering information to the American people. The agency supports all three branches of government by producing U.S. passports, official publications for Congress and the White House, and other materials in both print and digital formats. GPO also ensures permanent public access to Federal information through www.GovInfo.gov and its partnership with more than 1,100 libraries participating in the Federal Depository Library Program.
