Avery Dennison Unveils Recyclable Paper Label Solutions

Avery Dennison, a global leader in material sciences and technology announced its first range of INGEDE Method 12-certified paper label solutions. With this new range, the American company is advancing its mission to continuously develop solutions for brands that enable recycling for a more circular economy.

The new range of paper label solutions uses a newly developed adhesive technology that cleanly screens out from pulp during the recycling screening process, resulting in higher quality output for new cardboard and paper production.

The range offers good print and conversion for a wide variety of applications and industries. rVellum, Coated Paper, Thermal Eco, and Thermal Top facestock combinations provide options for decorative labelling and variable information/barcode labelling. Additionally, rVellum facestock is made from 100% recycled materials offering sustainable advantages, such as reducing CO2.

To meet the PPWR guidelines for packaging recyclability, all components of a packaging unit must meet certain design for recycling criteria. To ensure that this range meets the highest standards, the label materials were submitted for independent testing using INGEDE Method 12 that assesses print product recyclability. The new solutions also passed the recyclability requirements of the European Paper Recycling Council (EPRC).

“Paper and cardboard design-for-recycling guidelines and protocols are still in development, and will likely change in the future,” says Maarten Zubli, Marketing Manager Papers at Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials. “Still, we decided to certify our new paper label portfolio according to the INGEDE Method 12 protocol. This is one of the most stringent protocols for label materials, testing product compliance against the recycling demands placed on the paper industry. The INGEDE Method 12 certification shows our commitment to creating products that enable recycling without sacrificing performance, and that we’re doing so with the highest quality commitment in mind.”
