Everyone sort of expected it but when the news broke out all of sudden the aura of optimism turned into waves of euphoria. When finally the announcement on Dubai winning the World Expo 2020 was broadcasted on Wednesday 27th the whole country erupted in joyous celebration.
In its 150 years of history this is the first time that World Expo takes place in the Middle East.
The first “International Exhibition” was held in London in the summer of 1851 under the name the Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations or the Great Exhibition. UAE’s proposed theme for Expo 2020 is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”.
The exhibition is held every five years and attracts millions of visitors from all over the world. According to the official announcements some 25 billion dirhams investment in infrastructure will be carried out by the government of Dubai.
The project will trigger a tsunami of job opportunities in UAE and across the region. It is expected that more than 20 million visitors travel to Dubai on occasion of the mega event. All the industries including printing will benefit from the rise in commercial activities that is related directly and indirectly to the Expo.
And if that is not enough World Expo 2020 will inject €28.8 billion (more than AED 140 billion) in Dubai’s GDP and it will boost Dubai’s foreign trade which has already hit AED1.009 trillion by end of September 2013. Dubai is also a perfect city to host the event. Approximately, one third of the world’s population are only four hours away from Dubai by air, and 66% of the world’s population can land in Dubai airport in 8 hours flights. So fasten your seat belts everyone Dubai is ready to fly.
