Bedecked with a Christmas tree and packed surprises beneath it, Al Mawrid Printing & Advertising in Sharjah was in a festive mood, when Mrs. & Mr. Ferdinand Rüesch, Owner and Vice President of Gallus, came all the way from Switzerland to officially inaugurate the Gallus ICS 670 press. We would like to give a recap to our readers that Al Mawrid had invested in the US$ 5.6 million Gallus ICS 670 during drupa 2012. The press comes with a continuous unwinder, two gravure print units, a module for cold foiling application, lamination capabilities, seven HiDef flexo printing modules and an inline flat bed
diecutter.
A part of Thomsun Group, Al Mawrid bought the Gallus as part of strengthening their packaging division. The printing press is into the production of premium packaging products and high-end folding cartons for cosmetic, tobacco and food products. As part of the event, the management and staff of Al Mawrid welcomed the guests, and after an official ribbon cutting ceremony, Ferdinand switched on the ICS 670, which immediately began rolling out the foiled and ready to pack folding carton sheets.
T.K. Babukutty, GM of Al Mawrid said that the investment has given them leverage in the packaging front and that they expected more orders from their customers in the near future. Babukutty explained that the installation work of the machine was recently completed and they had started production on the machine from last month. A dedicated hall was built to equip the Gallus ICS 670 and Babukutty added that the machine has cut down the labour cost, as only four people were required to control the entire operation of the press.
He added, “With the Gallus in tow, we are now more productive, as the machine offers faster make-readies and quick changeovers. Apart from that the modular aspect of the machine makes printing flexible, as we can print according to the customer needs.” The ceremony was attended by officials from Heidelberg, including Zeid B. Al-Jehni, General Manager of Heidelberg Middle East in KSA, Mazen Wafic El – Tibi, Deputy General Manager of Heidelberg Middle East along with some prominent customers.
