A Printing House Is Reborn

The multimillion dollar project for expansion and renovation project of Dar Ibn Al Atheer Printing and Publishing Company in Mosul has been successfully completed. With a price tag of $6 million the project is one of the biggest development plans in Iraq’s graphic arts industry.  The printing press is now equipped with modern printing machinery able to meet the demands for fast delivery and high productivity.

The press is Mosul University’s printing arm and its primary mission is to fulfill University’s huge demand for printed products including textbooks, research papers, advertising and a wide range of publications. 

The printing press was founded in 1970 as a small printing operation within Mosul University at a cost of fifty thousand dinars.  At the time the press was equipped with Monotype machines.

The remodeled and renovated printing press was inaugurated by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ali al-Adeeb. Other than catering to the printing needs of university the press also handles a myriad of commercial jobs as well as newspapers and magazines for a variety of customers.

Ibn Al Atheer’s new premises is built on   3400 square meters of land and employs about 350 people. Having prepress, press and postpress operations under one roof the printing press is now one stop shop for all kinds of printing products.

Ibn Al Atheer now boasts 4 colour Speedmaster, 2 colour GTO, Suprasetter CTP system, and Digimaster digital press as well as finishing equipment including cutting machine and folder gluer.  

The printing press recently placed orders for more equipment. The shopping list includes Durst large format printer, creasing machine, thermal binding machine from Heidelberg and Riso digital printing press.
