$20M PET Recycling Plant to Come Up at Egypt’s SCZONE

Egypt’s Nile Recycling Company and Main Development Company (MDC) have signed an agreement for recycling polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in the integrated industrial zone of Sokhna, part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE). The deal was signed in the presence of SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien.

With production expected to commence in the first half of 2025, the 12,000 sq m PET recycling plant with an annual output capacity of 22,000 tonnes is expected to cut carbon emissions by 40,000 tonnes per year. The recycled PET bottles will be converted into food-grade rPET. The project is also expected to create 500 job opportunities.

The project is part of SCZONE’s strategy to promote sustainability and support the green economy through recycling and furthering environmentally friendly industries. SCZONE also adopts investor-friendly business environment that will be the cornerstone for national development plans.
