The 14th edition of STITCH & TEX 2022, the mega exhibition featuring the entire textile and garment value chain under one roof was held at the Cairo International Conference Center (CICC) from 20-23 October, 2022.
The exhibition showcased the full scope of the industry including printing technologies, textile and garment machinery, innovations in fabric and yarn, and related accessories.
The leading trade event in the Middle East & Africa (MEA) region, held under the auspices of Egypt’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) and Ministry of Finance, was within the framework of the state’s preparations for holding an economic conference, solving investors’ problems, and stimulating the national industry in sectors with a highly competitive advantage, including the spinning and weaving industries.
A conference on ‘Settlement of the textile industry in Egypt and complementary industries’ was held on the sidelines of STITCH & TEX 2022.
In its first session, the conference discussed the Egyptian state’s project to revive the textile industry, the establishment of the largest factory in the Middle East, methods to improve public-private participation and its impact on the national economy, and ways to increase the volume of Egyptian exports. Other topics included discussions on financing mechanisms; dealing with the customs and tax systems and ways to refund the tax; and registration and generating electronic invoices for large and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with officials from the finance ministry. The demands of the industrial and business communities in the spinning and weaving sectors were also looked into for presentation at the economic conference.
Karim Shalaby, managing director of Vision Fairs, the joint-organizer of STITCH & TEX 2022, said that this year’s event covered five main sectors, namely printing technologies, textile and garment machinery, innovations in fabric and yarn, and related accessories.
He added that this year’s activities also included a review of the export opportunities for Egyptian products, and ways to develop exports and open new markets by the Textile Export Council (TEC) of Egypt, focusing on the quality of products, pricing systems, production, and tracking.
A number of executive directors of international institutions and companies participated in the exhibition and conference to showcase international experiences and the latest production systems, and to improve the productivity of Egyptian factories.
The four-day event included several technical workshops and training courses including one on designing and printing for sportswear. Training workshops on preparing e-invoices and the tax refund system as well as training on the latest in fashion and fashion lines were also held.
Shalaby added that over the years since 2007, the international exhibition has become the most important annual event in Egypt for the spinning and weaving industries and the ready-made garment industry. The exhibition showcased a huge variety of spinning and weaving machines, the latest fabric and textile machinery including sewing and embroidery machines, and the latest technologies for printing fabrics and their supplies.
STITCH & TEX 2022 featured 827 exhibitors representing 2,790 brands from 37 exhibiting countries. The event also had 100 foreign exhibitors from various global markets including China, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland, who have been able to achieve sustainability in their spinning and weaving methods.
