Speed Printing Press Invests SAR 1M+ in Canon Technology

Speed Printing Press has partnered with Canon Saudi Arabia in an investment exceeding SAR 1 million, signalling a transition towards high-volume digital production. Led by CEO Abdulatif Thalappil, who brings over 38 years of experience in traditional offset printing, the Riyadh-based company aims to address the evolving demands of the Saudi market for faster turnaround times and versatile digital production.

The centerpiece of this investment is the installation of the Canon imagePRESS V1350 digital colour production press. The system is driven by PRISMAsync—Canon’s own developed print server—to bridge the gap between prepress and production. It features up to eight hours of visual production planning, allowing operators to schedule jobs, predict media changes, and prevent bottlenecks before they happen. It utilises a centralised media-driven workflow alongside advanced automated colour management to ensure effortless job ticking, pixel-precise colour reproduction, and maximum engine uptime. The system’s integrated sensing unit automates colour calibration and registration adjustments in real time.

For material handling, the press is equipped with a specialised Plockmatic feeding unit to manage continuous production across varied weights and oversized formats, maximising productivity on complex commercial jobs. The imagePRESS V1350 is also engineered to achieve a front-to-back registration tolerance of 0.5 mm to maintain output alignment on every sheet.

The heavy-duty system achieves printing speeds of up to 135 A4 pages per minute, significantly streamlining turnaround times.

The company’s major modernisation effort aligns with the broader objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which encourages local businesses to adopt advanced technological solutions and foster industrial modernisation within the kingdom.
