ProPaper Dubai 2025 opened its doors on 13 October at the premium Festival Arena at InterContinental Dubai Festival City, marking the beginning of a three-day trade fair and conference for the paper, packaging, tissue, and converting industries. With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, the event drew industry leaders from across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region.
Sustainability at the Core
The inauguration highlighted the growing regional trend toward eco-friendly solutions and circular economy principles. This was a central theme of the opening day’s conferences, which addressed strategies to reduce carbon footprints, increase recycling efforts, and advance sustainable packaging.
Key Announcements
The event’s Platinum Sponsor, Star Paper Mill, announced the upcoming commissioning of its new $54 million recycled containerboard mill in KEZAD (Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi). The facility will use waste paper sourced within the UAE and is designed based on circular economy principles.
Additionally, Al Ghurair Foods announced that its first corn starch plant in the UAE is on track for a phased launch in early 2026. The project, located in KEZAD, will supply local and GCC markets with cost-effective corn starch, a crucial component for the paper and packaging industry, reducing the country’s reliance on imports.

Attendees heard from speakers during the ‘Pulp and Fibre Growth in the Middle East’ conference session. Other discussions during the day covered topics like making corrugated packaging smarter, lighter, and greener.
