Jeddah-based Middle East Paper Company (MEPCO), the leading regional paper manufacturer recently announced the laying of the foundation stone for a jumbo roll production project, with an annual capacity of 60,000 tons.
The inaugural ceremony ick started a series of civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering works to ensure the site is ready to receive the production line in the second quarter of 2022.
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Emad Al Muhaidib, the founding board member and Muhammad Abdulaziz Bukhari, Executive General Director representing the Economic Cities and Special Zones Authority (ECZA), and Mr. Jamil Al Ghamdi, Executive Sector Head representing the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program, and also attended by high-ranking representatives from the King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) and Italian company Toscotec, which specializes in the design and manufacture of plants and equipment for the production of tissue paper and paperboard .
Sami Safran, CEO at MEPCO, commented, “Today we celebrated the start of construction work for this vital project. The establishment of the sanitary paper production project has multiple dimensions, exceeding its economic value, as we aim to reduce the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s imports of sanitary paper products by building and strengthening our capabilities locally, and supporting the contribution of the paper products sector to the non-oil sector of GDP. It is worth noting that the facility will employ more than 100 employees during the first operational year. The project is fully in line with Saudi Vision 2030.”
