Lucerne Gets Ready for Hunkeler Innovationdays 2023

The historic Swiss city of Lucerne, famous for its charming lakeside location and picturesque Alpine scenery, will be hosting the 14th-edition of Hunkeler Innovationdays, scheduled to be held from 27 February to 2 March, 2023, at Messe Luzern.

The coming edition will certainly be a special one as it marks the 100th anniversary of Hunkeler AG, the organisers of the event.

After the 2021 outing was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic as well as exhibitors’ supply chain issues, the international print industry event, focusing on high-performance digital printing and finishing, will once again become a gathering place for the world’s digital paper processing elite.

Hunkeler Innovationdays has always been distinguished by an interdisciplinary concept and a collegial atmosphere. In the two comparatively compact halls, all renowned manufacturers gather to meet up with owners, CEOs, management staff, industry experts, as well as other stakeholders. Innovationdays provides opportunities to gain an insight into a wide variety of practical, real-world applications that have immediate business relevance. Also, visitors can once again experience end-to-end workflows of the highest efficiency, across the entire value chain, from software to finished products, from idea to solution.

As always, this year’s edition features around 100 major players who will present their latest products in all areas of digital printing and finishing and will include all the leading manufacturers of printing and finishing systems, software developers and providers of finishing materials, and consumables. As in previous years, some of the exhibitors will also be offering a global premiere of their latest innovations. Major companies including Canon, Enfocus, Fujifilm, Heidelberg, HP, Kodak, Ricoh, Riso, and Xerox will join Hunkeler to showcase their most advanced technological innovations and solutions.

HP will be bringing the new inkjet web press, the 22”-wide HP PageWide Advantage 2200, to Lucerne, as a landscape-changer of high-speed production inkjet printing market for commercial printing, direct mail, and publishing-related printed products such as books, and as the latest frontier in commercial and industrial web printing. The new PageWide Advantage 2200 press platform incorporates a very compact footprint, a modular and expandable design that enables a three-level high-efficiency dryer (HED) configuration based on product applications with speeds up to 500fpm for full-colour and 800fpm for monochrome.

Explains Kris Albee, global marketing manager PageWide Industrial at HP, “A real and concrete revolution based on careful analysis of the market and contingent reality, because today’s printers who acquire new equipment are increasingly asking for greater guarantees of profitability and investment protection for the future, which a machine like HP PageWide Advantage 2200 is able to deliver.”

Japanese company Riso Kagaku Corporation is said to launch two new cutsheet high-speed inkjet printers for the production print market. While the Valezus T2200 is a twin-engined, full-colour device that delivers high productivity, achieving a duplex printing speed of 330ppm, the Valezus T1200 is the new single-engined printer that is suitable for both short and long-run transactional printing. The four-colour machine which offers speed of 165ppm is equipped with a 4,000-sheet delivery capacity feeder and stacker. Managing director at Riso UK Tatsua Murakami talks about the two new portfolios, “While the production print market is evolving all the time, there is a constant need for flexibility, quick turnaround, and finally profitability, which both these new devices provide and give companies the unique opportunity to meet volume demands.”

Speaking about his expectations of the upcoming event, Hunkeler AG’s owner and chairman of the board of directors Stefan Hunkeler says, “The pandemic is over and Switzerland is very open and liberal like the US. We will do it, and I hope thousands of people are coming to this wonderful event.”

Hunkeler AG, a family-owned Switzerland-based company since 1922, is one of the world market leaders in development, construction, and sale of paper finishing systems for high-performance digital printing with thousands of installations over the world.
