Learning and live speedboat wrapping at FESPA 2017

FESPA has announced its comprehensive seminar programme, delivering key insights and market knowledge across the sign-making, digital, screen, industrial, textile and interior printing industries for FESPA 2017, taking place at Messe Hamburg from 8 to 12 May 2017.

Developed with some of the leading experts within the industry, the FESPA seminar schedule offers educational content from key note speakers, which will be delivered daily in one seminar theatre.

The seminar programme, which visitors can attend free of charge with a valid FESPA 2017 entry ticket, covers a range of topics, focusing on the use of digital, screen and textile print technology in a variety of scenarios. Delegates attending these seminars have exclusive access to and will benefit from specialist learning opportunities, insights and discussions with respected industry figureheads who will be on hand to provide invaluable knowledge and understanding across a wide portfolio of printing applications.

Duncan MacOwan, head of events and new media at FESPA, said, “This year we have consolidated our educational offering into one main seminar theatre. The theatre, located on the show floor, will address the needs of visitors to FESPA 2017, European Sign Expo and Printeriors. Consolidating the theatres also means that visitors can plan their visit to FESPA efficiently and do not have to worry about missing out on valuable content due to clashes.”

Seminars will kick-off from 2pm on Monday 8 May and run until 1pm on Friday 12 May. Sessions throughout the event will include, How to create a great retail experience by Mal MacGowan, Owner, McGowans Print: A Designers’ creative journey to market by Debbie McKeegan, Creative Director, Digetex; European Sign Code of Practice by Luc Steegmans Owner at ELBO Signs And Technology – ESF European Sign Federation; and New measurement method of light emission by Ralph Hug, Engineer, Swiss Association VWP.

“Providing a unique knowledge sharing hub, the FESPA 2017 seminar programme allows like-minded industry professionals to gain access to and discuss a mix of technical and business knowledge, ensuring individuals have the tools to take their print business to the next level. Covering topics from direct-to-garment and promotional products to industrial inkjet and business solutions, the programme is specifically tailored to the needs of attendees, delivering professional insight that can help to shape and transform industry practice moving forward,” said Duncan.

World Wrap Masters winning design to come to life with speedboat wrap

Elsewhere on the show floor will be the return of the World Wrap Masters Series, where the best wrappers from around the world will showcase their skills to compete to win the title of World Wrap Master. On Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 May, the competition will see 36 wrappers battle it out to be crowned European Wrap Master 2017. The winner and runner-up will then go on to participate in the final, taking place on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 May, where they will be joined by regional and national winners from past Wrap Masters events.

Patrick Charrier of Bazoom Studio, France, has won FESPA’s recent World Wrap Masters Design Competition. The winning design will be applied, by the world’s best vinyl installers, to a speedboat used by the HaugaardRacing Team in the 2017 World Formula 4 UIM Powerboat Championship.

In order to qualify, participants were required to produce an attention-grabbing design demonstrating their creative skills. Prerequisites for the design included the boat number (22), the racing team’s logo and World Wrap Masters sponsor, Hexis’ logo.

Patrick’s design will be printed and installed during the World Wrap Masters Final, taking place at FESPA 2017 in Hamburg.

Patrick Charrier said: “The inspiration for my design came from the Danish Drakkar (aka Viking longboat). The general idea was to give an impression of movement to the boat, even when it’s at a standstill. Blue and white are the top colours for a boat – lots of white for the pontoons to contrast with the surface of the water. The gradated honeycomb patterns evoke the composite materials used to construct the boat. The stars are included to reference the pilot, the tightrope walker in his cockpit, as well as a nod to shooting stars and speed on water.”

The winning design was chosen by the driver of the raceboat Sebastian Haugaard Trads, and the World Wrap Masters Series head judge, Ole Solskin Ravn. Sebastian commented on the winning design: “Bazoom Studio’s design is unique and personal, incorporating beautiful flow lines and colours. We have not yet seen similar designs in the racing community and are confident this design will differentiate us in the field. We look forward to meeting Patrick at FESPA 2017 and seeing his design come to life. The boat not only looks good on paper, but due to the bright colours will look amazing on the water.”

Visitors to FESPA 2017 will be able to see the boat being wrapped with Patrick’s design during the live final on the 10thand 11th May 2017.
