Jeddah Book Fair 2022 Is More Than Just Books

Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Book Fair 2022 is open arms, welcoming 900 publishing houses to the Jeddah Superdome, the world’s largest freestanding dome, from 8-17 December, 2022.

The book fair is being organized by the Ministry of Culture’s Literature, Publishing & Translation Commission as part of its ‘book fairs’ initiative in the Saudi Arabian port city, a modern commercial hub and gateway for pilgrimages to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

The initiative is one of the commission’s strategic plans to promote book fairs in the kingdom as a cultural window to bring together local and international companies in the field of literature, publishing, and translation with avid readers and book lovers.

The Jeddah Book Fair 2022 will include three panel discussions on the first day of the exhibition. Seminars include ‘Philology of the Arabic Language’, ‘Narrative and Bridges of Cultural Memory’ and a behind the scenes interview with the stars of the ‘Game of Thrones’ drama series including Ian McElhinney, Jerome Flynn, and Tom Wlaschiha.

Lectures and workshops involving a panel of intellectuals and writers, comprehensive cultural activities with a wide variety of programmes including poetry evenings and theatrical performances, and a children’s corner that provides a variety of edutainment to the young are part of the activities planned on the sidelines of the exhibition.

As a first, a conference dedicated to science fiction will be held at this year’s edition, aiming to educate the public about the most prominent aspects of sci-fi, and about their authors’ experiences and inspiration.
