The Mohamed Hassanein Heikal Foundation for Arab Journalism announced 31 May, 2022, as the deadline for sending applications for its fifth annual journalism awards.
The prestigious awards aim to honour journalists in the Arab world who have distinguished themselves in their work during the year 2021. The contest features two awards, one for news story of the year, and the other for investigative story of the year. The commemorative trophy along with a cash prize of 2,50,000 Egyptian pounds are intended to hone their journalistic skills and upgrade themselves with the latest technological innovations in the field.
Those participating in the competition are expected to send their biodata along with a summary of all previous works published by the candidate in person or jointly with others that have appeared in any regional Arabic publications, news channels, online sites, and other means of electronic communication, including social media to the jury via awards@heikal.info
Contestants can apply for prizes for any work published in Arabic in regional newspapers, magazines, and news sites. The applicants are required to be Arab journalists of or under the age of 40 (as of 31 December, 2021), working with an Arabic language news outlet.
Established in 2007 by the renowned Egyptian journalist Mohamed Hassanein Heikal, the Heikal Foundation for Arab Journalism aims to support young Arab journalists and develop their skills. The award ceremony provides a platform for exchanging experiences and nurturing dialogues between journalists in Egypt and the world, and providing technical support to emerging press institutions.
