As part of an intensive programme aimed at developing new markets for Emirati writers and publishers, the Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) is showcasing diverse and creative works of Emirati publishers through its Manassah platform at the ongoing 32nd edition of the Doha International Book Fair 2023.
The book fair which runs from 12-21 June, 2023, will display more than 5,800 books, including 369 titles of 43 Emirati publishers. The Doha International Book Fair, one of the region’s oldest and largest book fairs, is highly popular among some of the leading publishing houses in the Gulf region.
The Doha book fair comes close on the heels of EPA’s participation in the Rabat International Book Fair 2023 held in the Moroccan capital city from 1-11 June, 2023.
The Rabat book fair is one of Morocco’s most important cultural events organized annually by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication. The 28th edition of the book fair, which saw the participation of 287 direct exhibitors and 450 indirect exhibitors from 51 countries, opened up a great opportunity to promote the works of Emirati writers and publishers participating in the global event.
Through its Manassah pavilion, the EPA displayed some of the latest publications of 19 Emirati publishers, including over 200 titles and 2,000 books in different genres, providing rich options for Arabic readers.
The back-to-back participation of EPA through its Manassah initiative in the two international book fairs is part of its efforts to contribute to the enrichment of Arab culture in the region, as well as provide an opportunity for Emirati publishers to strengthen their outreach in newer markets, establish new strategic partnerships with their counterparts in the region and the world, and enter into agreements to buy and sell translation rights. The platform’s broader aim is to develop the printing, publishing, and distribution market in the UAE and the Arab world.
