Sublimation printing on Cotton

d.gen has introduced transfer paper printing on Cotton, Rayon and blended fabrics. Subli_Cotton enables cotton sublimation to be done by the same printer and calendar used for polyester and other synthetic fabrics. First, the fabric is placed on the heat press plate; then, the Subli_Cotton paper is placed on the fabric to allow its rough side to touch the fabric. Subsequently, the printed transfer paper is placed on the soft side of the Subli_Cotton.

By adjusting the paper well, and setting the temperature of the heat press to a recommended level of 190°C for 60–90s, designs can be printed on cotton fabric.

Subli_Cotton is available in various weights–30, 40, 50, and 80gsm–for woven and knit fabrics, and it works with printers used for transfer paper printing and equipped with Epson, Ricoh and Kyocera print heads. Its water repellency enables applications in printing on sportswear, t-shirts, hand bags, curtains, sofa and cushion covers, blinders, wall covers, shoes, and tents.

Andrea Negretti, managing director & COO, d.gen, explains: “d.gen continues to invest in both direct-to-textile and transfer technologies, offering versatile and affordable solutions. Paper is a cheap substrate which prints and stores textile designs and then transfers them to fabrics using heat presses and calendars. Subli_Cotton offers an easy and affordable way to print on cotton by using an inkjet printer and heat transfer calendar machine. Raw cotton fabrics without B/W treatment and coloured fabrics, even black colour fabrics, can be sublimated with great colours, and fabrics will have water repellency automatically. Accordingly, they can be applied to products such as sneakers, eco-bags, parasols, etc. Mass production is possible with roll-to-roll configuration.”
