The General Organization for Government Printing Offices (Al Amiria), Egypt’s most prominent printing press, has produced the first batch of its photocopier paper. Branded Tahya Misr, the copier papers were manufactured domestically for feeding photocopiers and laser printers, against the spiraling price of imported paper following the fall in the value of the Egyptian pound against the dollar.
Al Amiria has been provided with Braille printing machines with a tape feed (roll feed) to print larger volumes for the visually challenged. The press also makes use of a variety of specialized inks such as magnetic inks, thermal inks, and UV inks.
According to Egypt’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, Al Amiria has achieved a business volume of 5.432 billion pounds. The ministry’s report also stated that 47 million pounds has been invested to cover the cost of maintenance, including replacements and renovations, to maintain the production capacity of the press.
