Live from Chicago
Print 13 & CPP Expo: September 8-12, 2013, Mc Cormick Place
Dr. Ahmed Al Shaikh, managing director of Modern Printing Press in Dubai and a well known printing professional in the region is in Chicago now visiting Print13 trade fair. Here is his take on the show sent to us via his Blackberry.
The absence of major offset players at the exhibition is noticeable. However this is something that I guess we all have to get use to it. But Komori is participating in the show and there are other local vendors such as Presstek. You don’t see many international visitors, which doesn’t surprise me at all. To tell you the truth there is not much to see. Having said that the show is even smaller than what I had expected.
The digital print equipment manufacturers have a massive presence. Xerox, Canon, Konica Minolta, Fuji and Rico have occupied almost half of the total exhibition space. This confirms what I already mentioned in my speeches that short run is becoming the de facto standard in printing.
The manufacturers are becoming more specialized offering technologies that fulfil specific requirements of specific printers. Printers will also become smaller and more specialized catering to niche markets rather than doing everything for everyone.
